Art For Arts Sake With Ashurst Art Group
by Wyndham Westaway
Ever wanted to paint or draw but you could never quite find the right time or place where you felt comfortable? Well the Ashurst Art Group may be just what you are looking for.
The group has been established for about 16 years and meets every Friday morning from 9.30 till 12.30 in the Ashurst Village Hall, next to the church (TN3 9TE ).
We are a small friendly group of women and men of mixed ages and abilities who enjoy art and just like to get together once a week to paint and chat. Sometimes more chat than paint.
It doesn’t matter if you are a complete beginner or a seasoned artist just bring the materials you need with you and enjoy yourself.
There is no formal tuition and everybody just does their own thing but we are all very supportive should you need advice from some of the more experienced members.
Most people tend to use watercolours, one or two use acrylic, charcoal, pastels even pen and ink. It is up to you as you don’t have to do a particular subject.
Our numbers vary according to the time of year but on average we have between 10 and 20 turn up but we have plenty of room for more should you be interested. Most of our members live within 5-10 miles of the hall but several coming from much further afield.
The cost works out at about £1.60 per person per week collected quarterly but that includes teas and coffees plus biscuits. Sometimes cakes are bought in if we are lucky!
