It’s All About Charity – December 2018

Rockinghorse Childrens’ Charity – Christmas Appeal

This Christmas, you can help Rockinghorse Children’s Charity raise money to provide jaundice monitors for the Community Midwife Team, who are based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. Between them, they look after 6,000 new mothers and their babies every year.

Having jaundice monitors on home visits will allow midwives to carry out a simple test on babies suspected of having jaundice. This will reduce the time and stress on families who currently have to travel back to their local hospital A&E for the test. To find out more and donate: or call 01273 330044.

Bexhill Care Home Opens its Doors to Combat Loneliness and Isolation

Older people are being welcomed into Sussex Housing & Care’s residential care home in Bexhill for a free hot lunch, to enjoy some friendly company and to take part in a variety of activities.

Sussex Housing & Care, a not for profit provider of housing and care for older people in Sussex, is leading the initiative to help tackle the increasing local and national problem of loneliness and isolation amongst older people.

Ardath care home in Bexhill will open its doors on Tuesday 11th December, and the second Tuesday of every month, from 11am to 3pm. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, as well as refreshments and a two-course lunch.

Vafa Hurst, Regional Manager said, “We know that one million older people in the UK can go for a whole month without speaking to a friend, neighbour or family member. Social isolation is a problem local communities can help to tackle. We want to give older people the opportunity to spend time with our friendly residents and staff whilst enjoying some fresh, home cooked food and activities. We’d encourage people to book their place so please call us on 01424 210538.”

Sussex Housing & Care’s mission is to help people live their later life to the full.

Mediation Plus – It’s ‘Time to Talk’

Mediation Plus is a small charity offering mediation between neighbours, children and parents and in the workplace. They have just received three years of funding from BBC Children in Need to run ‘Time to Talk’, a service aimed at improving the relationship between young people and their parents or carers and they are very proud of the positive impact mediation can have on those involved. Please help spread the word, especially at this time of year, as people reflect on their relationships.
