Dogs Trust Shoreham Rehoming Appeal For Dog Dumped On A Hill Fort

A Staffordshire Bull Terrier is seeking a new home after being abandoned on a hill. Ten-year-old Bert is currently in the care of Dogs Trust Shoreham after he was found wandering on Highdown Hill in the South Downs, Worthing. After being collected from the hill fort by a Adur and Worthing Council dog warden, Bert is now looking for a retirement home at Dogs Trust Shoreham Rehoming Centre. After his ordeal, staff at the Sussex charity are hoping to find him his ‘yappy’ ending.

Staff suspect that he was deemed ‘too old’ by his previous owners, although the loveable lad has plenty of life and love in him. Vets have found that Bert has a nasty, chronic ear infection, which he is currently receiving treatment for, so the team at Dogs Trust are giving him lots of extra TLC to nurse him back to health.

Tracey Rae, Dogs Trust Shoreham Rehoming Centre Manager, said: “Although a dog is for life, sadly we’ve seen an increase in dogs handed over to the charity deemed ‘too old’ by owners. Bert’s story is made all the sadder due to be being dumped on South Downs. We’re just thankful that he was found and is now with us. Bert is a real sweetheart who just wants to be part of a family. He’s looking for a relaxing lifestyle where he can laze around, mooch about in a garden, eat tasty treats and have sofa snuggles. We would love to find this friendly, loveable character the second chance at happiness that he deserves.”

Although Bert enjoys being a couch-potato, he also loves running and rolling about in the grass. He appreciates the peaceful side of life and would happily spend his days lazing about on a sofa, enjoying snuggles from his human pals. Bert would be happy to share his retirement home with a fellow calm, Bull breed dog, and can live with children aged 12 and over. Since arriving with the team, it is apparent Bert loves human company so his new adopters should gradually build up the time that Bert is left alone, while he settles into his new environment.

If you can offer Bert a fresh start and home, please call the team at Dogs Trust Shoreham on 0300 303 0292 or visit www.dogstrust.org.uk.
