Fundraising Trail

by Friends of Sussex Hospices

This September, pull on your walking boots to raise cash for Sussex hospices. Read on to find out how you can get involved.

Friends of Sussex Hospices is asking fundraisers to pull together a team to take on a section of the Sussex Hospices Trail in a charity event on Saturday 15th September. Walkers can raise funds for a local hospice of their choice or support all 12 by donating to Friends of Sussex Hospices. On the 15th, teams of up to eight people will set off at 9am to walk their chosen section at their own pace.

The Sussex Hospices Trail covers 200 miles from Chichester in the west to St Leonards in the east and reaches as far north as Horsham. There are also coastal stages through Worthing, Brighton & Hove and Eastbourne. The 26 fully described and mapped walks, ranging from 4 to 11 miles long, link the areas covered by the 12 hospices supporting people in Sussex.

Before the event each team leader must download the iFootpath app and also download their chosen walk. On the day, teams will leave their start point at 9am and follow the route on the app. Medals will be awarded to everyone who finishes their section.

Kathy Gore OBE, Chair of Friends of Sussex Hospices, said, “Our hospices provide crucial support to families at extremely challenging times but they all rely on support from their local communities and so we’ve established the trail to help raise funds and awareness of their vital work.”

Sue Korman, who devised the trail said: “The walks can create a real sense of camaraderie and goodwill and we’re delighted to be able to leave the trail as a permanent legacy of the work of Friends of Sussex Hospices.”

The event will raise money for: Chestnut Tree House, Demelza Hospice Care for Children, St Barnabas, St Catherine’s, Hospice in the Weald, Martlets, Leo House at Home, St Michael’s, St Peter & St James, The Sussex Snowdrop Trust, St Wilfrid’s (Eastbourne) and St Wilfrid’s (Chichester).
