Harvest Celebrations Come To Lewes

Harvest Celebrations Come To Lewes

A Lewes church is preparing for one of its busiest times of the year as the weekend sees harvest celebrations at St Thomas in the Cliffe.

The parish church will be open all weekend for visitors to admire the beautiful seasonal decorations of flowers, hops and foliage which will be arranged on Friday morning. On Saturday (6th October) St Thomas’ hosts the hugely popular Harvey’s Thanksgiving Service at 11am, with music by Sussex Harmony. The event usually sees the ancient church packed before a procession along Cliffe High Street to the brewery yard and the ritual of Dancing In the year’s Old Ale.

On Sunday the Cliffe church has its own Harvest service at 9.45am with a sermon by the Rector of Lewes. Evening Prayer is at 6.30pm followed by the Harvest Supper.

“This is both a busy and an exciting time in the life of St Thomas’ church; our flower arrangers do a marvellous job on the Friday to make sure everything is looking so beautiful for the weekend’s celebration”, explains churchwarden Trevor Butler. “We are always delighted to welcome friends of the brewery and the many Morris sides to their service which has become a key date in our calendar.”
