The League of Friends at the Princess Royal Hospital – Looking for volunteers
The League of Friends, a registered charity, provides equipment and amenities at the PRH for the benefit of patients, staff and visitors.
In the last year we have provided 10 new beds with many specific, with new and necessary functions for critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit, at a cost of £100,000. We have also funded the refurbishment and equipping of the former fracture clinic amounting to £73,000, as a Rapid Access Medical Unit. This is for mainly older patients who have been referred by their GP, thus creating more capacity in A&E and avoiding unnecessary emergency admissions – the unit is open 7 days a week. In addition to these 2 major items we have provided many less costly but much needed items throughout the hospital at a further cost of £171,000.
The Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Hayward’s Heath serves the whole of Mid-Sussex from East Grinstead to the Downs.
The League receives legacies and donations for which we are always grateful and we organize fund-raising events during the year. However the income from our Coffee Shop, in the hospital reception area is our major source of income, greatly helped by the fact that our overheads are minimal as our volunteers and trustees all give their time freely.
We are however always seeking volunteers to help in the Coffee Shop which is based on the ground floor of Princess Royal Hospital. Many volunteers come in every week for a shift of 2 – 3 hours, whilst others help once or twice a month. They enjoy the camaraderie and company of other volunteers and provide a valuable and useful 7- day service to visitors and staff alike. The Trust provides parking permits for volunteers working in the Coffee Shop. Should you be interested in joining us, please call in at the Coffee Shop or phone 01444 441881 ext. 8289
