Sussex Vale Rotary Bake OffAward Winning Bakes Sell Like ‘Hot Cakes’

Contestants got together in Hassocks on 18th July to pit their best recipes against each other in the Great Sussex Vale Bake Off, raising funds for Sussex Air Ambulance.

In it’s second year, organisers Sussex Vale Rotary Club and Hassocks WI chose to ‘up’ the challenge for local home bakers with the introduction of new competition categories, the vegetable cake and fruit scones.

Assessed by qualified independent WI judge, Mrs Jones, she commended the standard of entries, the Junior category in particular. Following careful consideration of each submission the prize winning bakes were awarded to: Lucy Barham (Junior), Duncan Honeyman (Tray Bake), Adrian Pacelli (Chocolate Heaven), Angela Honeyman (Victoria Sandwich) and the Champion Baker Jane Reed who won both the Vegetable Cake and Fruit Scones categories.

Sussex Vale Rotary Bake OffFollowing the competition all cakes went on sale with most being snapped up by locals keen to get their hands on the handmade delicacies. The few remaining items were delivered to the Villa Adastra Salvation Army retirement home. All proceeds from the competition, cake sale, raffle and refreshments were donated to Sussex Air Ambulance.

A huge thank you to all of the local businesses who showed their generosity through sponsorship and raffle prize donations. The total raised on the day was £433, which could not have been achieved without the help and support of the local community.
