The Sussex Mills Group Autumn Meeting, Sunday 2nd October 2016
This year’s Sussex Mills Group Symposium will take place on 2nd October at Lewes Town Hall Lecture Room, Fisher Street entrance. As usual the event is an open meeting to which members and non-members will be very welcome. There are more than twenty mills open to the public in Sussex from Easter to October each year, some of which will be mentioned during the day. The event will be chaired by Philip Hicks, Chairman of the Sussex Mills Group and the speakers will be Simon Hudson, Peter Casebow, Peter James, Fiona Marsden, Greg Chuter, East Sussex County Archaeologist and Peter Hill, Vice-Chairman, who will embrace such subjects as photographic recording, restoration of mills, Kent and Sussex mills of the 1950s, the importance of historic environment records to mills, harnessing the power of wind worldwide and finally a series of short reports on Sussex mills.
The hall opens at 9.30a.m. with tea or coffee and biscuits and the event will commence at 10a.m. Afternoon tea and cakes will be available at 3.15p.m.
A milling bookstall will be open before the lectures and during the lunch and tea breaks.
The Ticket including the Programme for the day is £10 per person. Cheques should be made payable to the Sussex Industrial Archaeology Society.
